Assessment tests that are offered are English, Mathematics, Reading and English as a Second Language (ESL). We also offer the Ability to Benefit (ATB) test.

Test Day
A picture ID is required when placement testing is given. All students who wish to take an assessment with Yuba College will need to have already applied to the college 24 hours prior to taking the assessment exam.

Results
Results are provided to the student immediately after taking the computerized test. Keep your assessment results as you may need them during a counseling appointment or as proof that you meet certain graduation requirements. You will also be able to see your Test Summary through WebAdvisor.

Assessment tests may be taken more than two times in any semester and not more than three times in any two-year period. Exam results will be valid for two years, or as recommended by the instrument publisher.

Retaking the Assessment
English/ESL/Math/Reading: Students may retake the assessment after a 30 day waiting period. It is advised during this time that the student study for the test in order to improve upon the score that they originally received.

Students may take the Placement Examination no more than three times in a 2-year period and not more than twice in any semester. There is a 30-day waiting period for retests. The placement examination may not be used to supplant a failed prerequisite course or to skip a course in a sequence of courses. Placement scores may be valid for up to three years.

All student who plan to enroll in Mathematics or English courses or courses with a heavy reading content, math content, or those who intend to graduate or transfer units to another institution, as well as concurrently enrolled high school students, are advised to complete the Yuba College Placement Examination prior to enrolling into classes.

Students and prospective student may take the Placement Examination three times in a two-year period, twice in any semester and onetime in any 30-day period.

Testing Policy

Ability To Test (ABT)
Federal regulations state that if a student does not have a high school diploma or equivalent and if he/she applies for federal financial aid, that student must demonstrate an ability to benefit from instruction.  This is done by getting a certain score on a test which has been approved by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Department of Education has indicated that students who were enrolled in a financial aid eligible program prior to July 1, 2012 will continue to be eligible to take the ATB test after July 1, 2012.

ew students or students who were NOT enrolled in college courses prior to July 1, 2012 are NOT eligible to take ATB test.

Students who were enrolled in college courses prior to July 1, 2012 must contact the Financial Aid Office at (916) 558-2501 OR (916) 558-2546 or go to the financial lab in the business building room 153 for more information about ABT eligibility.

  • Students have to complete the ATB Test Units Form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office
  • Students have to be approved by the Financial Aid Office in order to take the ATB test
  • Once a student receives an e-mail from the Financial Aid Office confirming that they are eligible to take the ATB test, call the Assessment Office to confirm that your are placed on the approved ATB list
